Our family dentists at Apple Dental Care in Edmonton offer BOTOX® treatment.
What is BOTOX® Treatment?
BOTOX® is a trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified protein.
The process behind the pain-relieving abilities of BOTOX® is simple. BOTOX® is injected into the facial muscles and blocks the transmitters between the motor nerves that stimulate the muscle. There is no loss of sensory feeling in the muscles. Once the motor nerve endings are interrupted, the muscle cannot contract.
When the muscle is unable to contract, areas that were previously tense or overactive from either stress or overuse, get the relief they need. Your body is no longer sending (and receiving) multiple signals from your neurotransmitters and your muscles relax.
This relaxation relieves the symptoms associated with the muscles involved in your pain.
How does BOTOX® work?
When you come in for your first appointment, we will evaluate your dental and medical condition.
Our dentist will carefully identify the best way BOTOX® can benefit you. Please note, the treatment is conducted by a dental professional.
At Apple Dental Care, we use BOTOX® for:
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is a medical term that covers the dysfunction of the jaw and the joints that connect the skull. TMD leads to chronic headache pain and bite abnormalities. Our BOTOX® treatment provides relief for temporomandibular joint dysfunction and pain associated with the disorder.
Clenching & Grinding
Continuous hard clenching and grinding of jaw muscles can lead to wear and tear of your teeth and jaw. It is often unconscious and many of us do not realize when we're doing it, as it ususally happens during sleep. We may do it when we are angry, nervous, stressed or worried. BOTOX® treatment reduces nerve control over your jaw muscles, providing relief of consistent clenching and grinding.
Lip & Chin Enhancement
When you smile, the lip and chin muscles play a significant role in the movement. We at Apple Dental Care, we can use BOTOX® to enhance the lip and chin muscles.
