Wish to hide a chipped tooth? Want to conceal that permanent yellowish coloration on your tooth? You can do so by using dental veneers. A veneer is an alternative to crowns and can be an excellent solution to your dental problems.
At Apple Dental, you will find that dental veneers can be the dental solution you were looking to conceal an injured tooth. A veneer is made of porcelain and is a thin, custom-made shell of a tooth. It covers the surface of a tooth to improve the tooth’s appearance. Veneers are similar to crowns, but while crowns are hard and thick shells, veneers are just thin shells and most of your tooth is actually preserved.
When are Veneers used?
Here’s a quick look at the instances our dentist recommend dental veneers.
- You may have discolored teeth due to a dental treatment or side-effects of drug usage
- As you age, your teeth will wear out
- Chipped or broken teeth are difficult to hide
- Misaligned teeth or teeth that have gaps
Types of Dental Veneers
There are two basic types of dental veneers our dentists at Apple Dental recommend.
Porcelain veneers are dental veneers usually recommended by dentists. Porcelain is preferred because of its strength and durability. Additionally, the light color of porcelain is a perfect match with a person’s dental color.
Composite veneers are crafted directly in a person’s mouth and bonded to the tooth in a single dental visit. However, composite veneers don’t offer the same strength and durability as porcelain.
Apple Dental’s Veneer Procedure
Bonding veneer to your teeth requires three visits. On your first visit, our dentist will examine and assess your current dental condition. A decision will be made on whether veneers, bridges or crowns is the best dental solution.
Once our dental expert suggests veneers, about ½ enamel is removed from your tooth’s surface to make a place for the veneer. A dental impression will be taken of the tooth. It takes about a week for the veneer to be made.
When the dental veneer is made, the dentist will ensure that it is the correct fit and color for your tooth. The veneer will be smoothened as required. After that, the veneer will be bonded to your tooth using a special cement.
Taking care of your Dental Veneer
Maintaining your dental veneers is similar to taking care of your natural teeth. Brush and floss your teeth regularly. Avoid eating hard foods that may crack your porcelain veneer. Also, avoid items like tobacco and coffee that could discolor or stain the veneer.
In certain cases, a dental veneer can be better crown or bridge options. Want to enhance your dental appearance? Dental veneers may be the right choice. Reach out to us at Apple Dental in Edmonton and book an appointment.
