Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth which create gaps in your smile. At Apple Dental, your smile is important to us and we cater to dental restoration options such as bridges and crowns to give you a beautiful, natural smile.

What do bridges do?

Bridges fill the gaps caused by missing teeth and prevent the adjacent teeth to change their position and alignments. Gaps left by the missing teeth can widen if the adjacent teeth move into the gaps and this affects the biting and chewing movements of the mouth. It can also cause gum disease and other dental problems.

Bridges can replace one or more teeth by getting fixed into the space left by the missing teeth. Bridges are made of porcelain or ceramic and can be easily matched to the color of your natural teeth. Bridges are cemented to the existing teeth between which the gaps exist and these teeth serve as anchors for the bridges to fit upon. The replacement teeth, known as Pontics, rest in the gaps between the abutments and can be made from different materials. The choice of material used to make bridges depends on the position of the teeth where a bridge is required, the cost, its functions, and aesthetic considerations.

How are bridges made?

At Apple Dental, a lot of effort goes into making the bridges so that our patients have the utmost comfort with their new bridges. Before bridges can be placed onto the existing abutments, the teeth are prepared for the fitting by shaping them and rounding them. Impressions of the teeth are taken to provide molds for creating bridges in the exact same shapes and size of the remaining teeth.

Once the impressions are taken, the bridge material chosen by the patient, in consultation with our dentist, is used to create the bridges in a laboratory. If the bridges are being made using porcelain, the exact shade of your tooth color is also taken to create a dental bridge that matches your natural tooth color.

While the permanent bridges are being developed, temporary bridges may be placed in the open gaps to prevent infections and damage to the gums.

How long do bridges last?

Bridges can last a lifetime if cared for and maintained properly. It is imperative to visit Apple Dental once in 6 months to get your bridges examined and cleaned by professional dentists and hygienists at Apple Dental.

You also need to ensure proper cleaning and oral hygiene to keep your dental bridges in top shape. Brushing and flossing regularly and using mouthwash and fluoride toothpaste will keep your dental bridges clean and germ-free for longer.
